Synopsis
The Committee on Smallpox Vaccination Program Implementation issues this fourth in a series of brief reports to provide timely advice to assist Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and its partners in their implementation of the vaccination program. This report responds to issues raised by CDC at the committee's May 1, 2003 meeting. In particular, the report includes: (1) a discussion of smallpox preparedness and its integration into overall public health preparedness; (2) the committee's advice regarding offering vaccination to members of the general public who insist on receiving it; and (3) an examination of selected aspects of smallpox vaccination program implementation.
